Deleting A Connection

You can delete a connection from your system or remove a connection only from the current DTS. The Scribe Internal Database connection cannot be deleted or removed.

Delete — Marks the connection as deactivated in the Scribe Internal Database. A deleted connection can no longer be used in the current DTS or any other DTS on your system.
If you open a DTS that uses a connection that has been deleted, the Connection Manager displays the connection in red, indicating you must redefine the connection. If you define a new connection that matches the name and properties of a deleted connection, instead of adding a new connection to the database, the original connection is reactivated.
Warning: Deleting a connection from the system affects all other DTS files that use that connection in steps, links, or formulas.
To delete a connection
1. In the Workbench, click the Connections icon (). The Connection Manager dialog box appears.
2. Select an existing connection.
3. Click Delete.
4. If the selected connection is used in another DTS, a message appears warning that if you delete this connection, those DTS files will cease to function:
  1. Click No.
  2. Determine the DTS files that use the selected connection.
  3. Change those DTS files to use another connection.
  4. Repeat this procedure.
5. Click Yes.
Remove — Removes the Target role from a connection in the current DTS. The connection is still available to be assigned a role in the current DTS. Any other DTS that also uses this connection is not affected.
To remove a connection role from the current DTS
1. In the Workbench, click Configure Steps. The Configure Steps dialog box appears.
2. Click the Data Objects tab.
3. In the Connections tree, select the connection you want to remove.
4. Click Remove. The connection is removed.
