Global Connection Settings Tab

The Global Connection Settings tab enables you to modify attributes of the connection that are saved with the connection and that are available to all DTS files.

To open the Connection Manager, in Workbench, click View > Connections.

Note:

Any settings that you modify on this tab may affect connections that are used in other DTS files.
Only options that are valid for the currently selected connection are available.

From the Global Connection Settings tab you can define or review:

Connection Name — Enter a string to identify the connection. You can change the name of any connection, except the Scribe Internal Database. Connection names can be up to 32 characters long.
When you create a target step, the step name reflects the associated connection. However, if you change the connection name, the step name does not change. For example, if you have a connection named CRM, and you have defined a CRM Account Insert step, changing the connection name from CRM to MyCRM does not change the name of the step.
Server Name — Displays the server where the database is located. To modify this value, you must change the connection.
Database Name — Displays the name of the database configured with the adapter. To modify this value, you must change the connection.
User Name — Displays the user account that is configured to log into the adapter when this connection is made. To modify this value, you must change the connection.
Password — Indicates that a password for the user account is configured. This value is only displayed here. To modify this value, you must change the connection.
Connect Params — Indicates parameters that are used with the connection, such as the application name and database name.
Ignore Scribe metadata tables (ksync*) within the selected data source — Select this option to disable the Insight adapter that contains the ksync* tables. Some data sources, including the Scribe Internal Database, use Scribe metadata tables (ksync*). In general, this feature only applies to the Scribe Internal Database and older adapters that do not use APIs.
Use application labels as field names — Select this option to instruct the application to use the data source field labels as its field names. This may be more user friendly for users who are not familiar with the data source native field names.
Support Unicode data — Select this option if this DTS is used with the Unicode Text Adapter or any adapter that supports Unicode data. See Support Unicode data.
Run As (Windows Authentication Only) — If the data source is configured for Windows Authentication, select this option to run the connection using the security and permissions defined for the specified user. This option is only available if Support Unicode data is selected, and is not valid for a data source that is configured for SQL server authentication. Change Connection — Click this to change the connection properties for this connection, which is currently used in the DTS. For connections not used in the current DTS, this button is labeled Connect. After you modify the connection settings, you may be prompted to do one of:
- Save changes you made to the existing connection and update any DTS that is currently using this connection.
- Create a new connection with the properties you specified. This connection is also available to any DTS on your system, but no other DTS is updated to this connection.
Depending on the original data source, the appropriate dialog box appears to allow you to make changes. For more information, see Adding a Connection.
