Cross Reference Keys

The Cross Reference feature maintains a mapping of values between the primary ID values for two different systems.

Cross Reference Keys example

For an example of how the cross reference feature works, let's say that you have two applications, App A, and App B. These applications have the following customer ID fields:

To integrate customer data from App A into App B, you need to know the relationship between these two IDs, (that is, 1234 = ACME0001). The Cross Reference feature facilitates the process of configuring and maintaining the cross reference of the IDs.

When a record is inserted or updated in the target, Insight writes the selected source and target key values into a cross reference table. You can then create a lookup link to see if the ID from the source is in the cross reference table :

Note: Use the XREF functions to find or use a cross reference value for a lookup link or a data link:

To open the Cross Reference Keys dialog box

  1. Select Cross Reference Keys from the Links menu.
  2. Click the Cross Reference Keys icon () on the Workbench toolbar.
