Enable troubleshooting from within Workbench. You can set Workbench to trace the
activity that happens when a DTS file runs to see more details about what happened during the process. By default,
the trace file is installed in the *\Public\Public Documents\Scribe folder.
For more information about tracing, see the Site Settings: Tracing topic in online Help.
To turn on tracing within Workbench
In the Workbench, click View > Options. The Application Options dialog box appears.
Click the Tracing tab.
Select the Tracing Enabled checkbox.
Enter the path for the trace file. By default, the trace file folder is Users/Public/Public Documents/Scribe/Tracing.
Click OK. You return to Workbench.
Note: You can turn on Tracing from Site Settings in the Console.
Disable tracing when you are not troubleshooting. Trace files can become large, using up disk space, and tracing
makes DTS files run more slowly.
To view the trace file
Do one of the following:
In the Workbench
Click View > Options.
Click the Tracing tab.
Verify Tracing Enabled is selected. If this option is not selected, no trace file is being created.
Click Open Trace Folder.
In the Windows Explorer — Browse to the trace file folder and open in Notepad or a similar editor. By default, the trace file folder is Users/Public/Public Documents/Scribe/Tracing.
Note: If the trace file is very large, consider using a tool other than Notepad to view it.
