Operation Tab

An operation is the action, such as an insert or an update, that you want this step to perform. Use the Operation tab to:

Change the operation for a step
Add bulk operations for a step
Determine how to manage updates of existing records
Determine how to manage null values
Set (or clear) auto foreign key assignment

To Change The Operation Type Performed On A Step

Click the step in the Step Order pane.
Click the Operation tab.
Select the operation you want for this step.
If you select Update or Delete operations, you can use the Perform Update/Delete Operation to resolve update and delete conflicts.

To set other options

Allow NULL values to overwrite Target Data — Typically cleared to protect existing target data.
- Select this option if you want to allow null values from source rows to overwrite existing data in the target rows during an update operation.
- Disable this option if you want to protect existing data in target rows from being overwritten by null values from the source.
Allow auto foreign key assignment — Maintains relationships between multiple tables or objects, especially between parent and child objects, by capturing the parent object’s primary key during processing and distributing that key to any related foreign key fields when processing subsequent child steps. By default, this option is selected on all steps and foreign keys are automatically assigned.
If you clear the Allow auto foreign key assignment check box:
- On a parent step, foreign key fields on child steps are not populated with the parent keys.
- On a child step, there is no change to foreign key processing on either the parent or the child step. However, the auto foreign key icon () no longer displays for that step.
  Note: By default, Allow auto foreign key assignment is always selected. In general, TIBCO suggests that you keep this feature selected.
- On a child step:
  - Foreign key fields are filled in with the parent keys during processing.
  - The diamond icon is cleared for foreign key fields on the child steps.
  - Field properties on the foreign key fields are not changed (that is, the properties indicate that foreign key fields will be automatically filled in with parent keys.
